Crunchy, cheesy, and loaded with savory chili goodness—this Frito Chili Pie is pure comfort food that’s quick, easy, and perfect for weeknight dinners or game day snacking
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15-ounce) can kidney or pinto beans (optional)
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 bag Fritos corn chips
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Toppings:
- Sour cream, jalapeños, diced onions, cilantro
Instructions
1️⃣ Cook the Chili:
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the diced onions and garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, and beans (if using). Let the chili simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, so the flavors come together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
2️⃣ Build the Pie:
- In a baking dish, spread a layer of Fritos corn chips at the bottom.
- Spoon the warm chili evenly over the chips.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously on top.
3️⃣ Bake or Serve:
- Baked Version: Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Quick Version: Skip the baking and serve the hot chili straight over the chips. The heat from the chili will melt the cheese perfectly.
4️⃣ Add Toppings:
- Top with sour cream, diced onions, fresh jalapeños, and a sprinkle of cilantro for extra flavor and texture.
Notes
- Crunch Factor: Add a few extra Fritos on top just before serving to keep that irresistible crunch.
- Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced fresh jalapeños to the chili for some heat.
- Make Ahead: Cook the chili ahead of time and assemble the pie just before baking or serving.
