  • Yield: 12 Donuts 1x

Description

Golden, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside, these sourdough donuts are the perfect mix of tangy sourdough and sweet, soft donuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup organic sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 34 cups all-purpose or whole-grain flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Frying oil (tallow, avocado, or coconut oil)

Instructions

1. Warm milk, sugar, and butter in a saucepan until sugar dissolves. Transfer to a mixer, add 2 cups of flour, and mix until cool.
2. Add sourdough starter, eggs, and more flour. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
3. Let dough rise for 5-6 hours, then chill overnight.
4. The next morning, roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness, cut out donuts and let them proof for 1.5-2 hours.
5. Fry donuts in hot oil for 2-3 minutes per side until golden.
6. Glaze with a mixture of melted butter, milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Use ripe sourdough starter for a tangier flavor.
  • Chill the dough overnight for better texture and taste!
