Description
Golden, crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside, these sourdough donuts are the perfect mix of tangy sourdough and sweet, soft donuts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup organic sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3–4 cups all-purpose or whole-grain flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Frying oil (tallow, avocado, or coconut oil)
Instructions
1. Warm milk, sugar, and butter in a saucepan until sugar dissolves. Transfer to a mixer, add 2 cups of flour, and mix until cool.
2. Add sourdough starter, eggs, and more flour. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
3. Let dough rise for 5-6 hours, then chill overnight.
4. The next morning, roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness, cut out donuts and let them proof for 1.5-2 hours.
5. Fry donuts in hot oil for 2-3 minutes per side until golden.
6. Glaze with a mixture of melted butter, milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar.
Notes
- Use ripe sourdough starter for a tangier flavor.
- Chill the dough overnight for better texture and taste!
