Description

Delight in Soft and Fluffy Sourdough Sandwich Bread! Made with all-purpose flour, sourdough starter, butter, and honey, it’s perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 60 g (4 tbsp) unsalted butter, softened
  • 12 g (1 tbsp) sugar
  • 9 g fine sea salt
  • 50 g (¼ cup) bubbly, active sourdough starter
  • 270 g (1 cup + 2 tbsp) warm water

Instructions

  • Mix flour, butter, sugar, and salt using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment until the butter resembles crumbs.
  • Add the sourdough starter and warm water, mixing until combined. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Switch to the dough hook and knead for 6-8 minutes until the dough is soft and elastic. Cover and let rise at room temperature (68°F) overnight for 10-12 hours, until doubled in size.
  • In the morning, gently flatten the dough to release air bubbles and roll it into a log. Place the dough into a buttered 8.5×4 inch loaf pan.
  • Let the dough rise again until it’s 1 inch above the pan’s rim, about 1½-2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for at least 1 hour before slicing.

Notes

  • For a quicker second rise, use a smaller loaf pan (8.5×4 inch) or increase the starter amount.
  • You can replace the butter with vegan butter for a dairy-free version.
